Pool-side (lack of) glamour

Every week, Baby and I head to the pool for a freezing dunking complete with splashy toddlers, chewed bath toys and the obligatory post-swim hot chocolate (me) and milk (her).

I've decided it's high time I bought myself a new swimsuit to replace to saggy, ill fitting one I currently hurry from changing rooms to water in.

So yesterday evening, the search began. Something tells me that Topshop's target market doesn't include parent & toddler swim session attendees...!

The jangly stars would provide the perfect baby occupier.

No toddler would dare run along the side of the pool with those eyes staring at them.

Surely everyone needs horse-crotch bikini bottoms?!

Oh dear... I think I'd better keep looking!

If you know of any good sources of swimwear that is pretty yet practical, and doesn't cost the earth, please shout!

  3. Last time I tried to get into my swimsuit I was pregnant. I was thinking it was a bit large so would be fine. Erm, like a turkish wrestler who aspires to be a porn star. Not a good look. I would say I am not the best person to give advice!

    1. Haha, I read your comment in the middle of the night when feeding the baby - I had to stop myself snorting out loud! I can imagine that's definitely not a good look - I'll try to avoid that!

  4. Very entertaining! Reminding me of how I felt taking Ruby to baby swimming classes wearing the same costume I'd worn lots swimming when pregnant - I forgot that it would be very baggy and very see through, not a pleasant sight.

    1. Yes the tankini I used to wear when I went swimming when pregnant is now stretched beyond recognition!

  5. I'm afraid I'm going to be on this journey very soon. My husband has kindly nominated me to be the one that takes our little girl for swimming lessons. I haven't owned togs for more than 8 years so finding a suitable pair is daunting. Good luck. Let me know if you find any good ones :)Melinda x

    1. Oh it's good fun going swimming with little ones - and really, once you're in the water, everyone looks the same so don't worry!!

    1. It's lovely taking them in the water - all the babies I know love being in the water! (It's the getting out and getting dressed afterwards that they're not so keen on!)

  7. Lol. I'm in the same place, swimwear is now chosen with its ability to stay in place whilst wrestling a toddler through their swimming lesson rather than its cool look at the pool bar. Oh how life has changed

    1. So true - I found so many lovely swimsuits and tankinis, but all they had to keep them up was a skinny little clip-on strap - I don't fancy flashing the whole pool so had to discount those!

    1. You're obviously a much more stylish mama than me! I don't need anything that draws attention to my tum!
